UV LED Exposure Unit

UV LED Exposure Unit – QUICKER UV LED

The QUICKER UV LED is a modern photopolymer plate exposure unit that eliminates the issue of UVA fluorescent lamp power fluctuations, ensuring a stable and repeatable exposure process. Thanks to advanced technology, it guarantees high-quality and precise plate processing. Its advanced system enables detail reproduction down to 0.5% at 175 lpi. It effectively reduces the edge effect, resulting in high-quality plates for cold stamping. It also allows for the use of advanced hybrid screenings, achieving smooth tonal transitions down to “0”.

The three working stages-back exposure, main exposure, and UVA post-exposure provide full control over the plate preparation process.

The device eliminates the need for UVA lamp replacement, reducing operating costs. An intuitive touchscreen panel allows for simple and quick operation with a single button, while factory-programmed settings eliminate the need for manual calibration, ensuring optimal exposure parameters for every plate.

The QUICKER UV LED is a precise, efficient, and cost-effective solution for printing houses looking for reliable photopolymer plate exposure technology.

The most frequently asked questions

Yes. The installation process includes several steps. Below is a diagram of the workflow for the pre-press and printing departments.

The entire installation process is carried out by our technicians and installers. The installation is completed with staff training on operation and the ability to correct and set custom parameters. See point 3.

For a UV LED exposure unit to fulfil its function, it must be able to cure the photopolymer resin from which the plate is made before it becomes a matrix. Our lamps emit light in the range of 365 nm, which is suitable for the photopolymerization processes of flexographic and letterpress plates available worldwide. However, due to the different manufacturing processes of individual plate manufacturers, the UV absorption profile for each can vary significantly. Therefore, during installation, our technicians adjust the exposure parameters for each plate type.

After installation and establishing optimal parameters for back and main exposure, the client is trained to adjust these parameters and set a new plate type.

They have two parameters at their disposal:

  • Lamp pass speed (affects the point-building process and the amount of energy delivered in one lamp pass)
  • Number of lamp passes (affects the amount of energy delivered to the plate during the sum of all passes)

The device (motors, controllers, etc.) except for the lamp is covered by a 1-year warranty. The lifespan of the UV LED lamp is estimated at 20–25,000 hours of continuous operation under optimal conditions. As the manufacturer, we offer a 5,000-hour or 1-year warranty on the lamp, whichever comes first. The 5,000-hour period is the time in which we can ensure a stable lighting process of the lamp without a decrease in power. After this period, the lamp should still function properly, although a gradual few percent power drop may occur, which is natural for this type of device. In such a situation, we recommend recalibrating the exposure unit to correct any power drop and ensure optimal performance. Our technicians can do this during a service visit.

For different exposure times for different manufacturers, the basic warranty is sufficient to expose approximately 17,000 m2 of sensitive plates or about 8,500 m2 needing more energy.

There is an option to use additional service plans extending the lamp warranty for further periods, e.g., for 2 years and 10,000 hours.

Indicative costs of additional service plans:

  • + 1 year to the standard warranty and + 5,000 hours + 10% of the offer value of the exposure unit
  • + 2 years to the standard warranty and + 10,000 hours + 20% of the offer value of the exposure unit

Each service plan requires additional paid visits by our technicians for device inspection and quality control of lighting parameters.

We use two lamp-cooling solutions:

1. Air cooling of QUICKER UV LED lamps is sufficient when:

  • The work environment is not dusty
  • The room temperature does not exceed 35 ℃
  • There is the necessary airflow around the lamp for cooling

Characteristics of such a lamp:

  • Larger size, as it has built-in radiators and fans
  • More noise due to fan operation

2. Liquid cooling of QUICKER UV LED lamps is used when:

  • The work environment is dusty
  • The ambient temperature may exceed 35 ℃
  • Airflow around the lamp, necessary for cooling, is hindered
  • Lower noise level is expected
  • A more compact lamp size is required, as such a lamp has no built-in radiators and fans.

Characteristics of such a lamp:

  • The exposure unit must be equipped with a chiller where the liquid circulates between the lamp and the chiller, where it is cooled (the cost of the chiller without connection is about 1-1.5 thousand euros).
  • The chiller ensures that the cooling temperature does not cause condensation on the lamp, which is detrimental to it.

We use liquid cooling in our QUICKER UV LED exposure units when the following conditions are met, either together 1 and 2 or separately 3:

  1. The exposure unit is used in an external repro house.
  2. The ordered format is (QUICKER UV LED 100 or QUICKER UV LED 200).
  3. We install the QUICKER UV LED lamp in a machine where air access may be limited, the ambient temperature may be higher than 35℃, or there is a risk of condensation.

We use air cooling in our QUICKER UV LED exposure units when:

  1. For the formats QUICKER UV LED 75 or QUICKER UV LED 100
  2. The exposure unit is used in an internal printing house repro house
  3. The ambient working temperature does not exceed 35 ℃.
